 3. Hazards Identification

Emergency Overview: DANGER! Corrosive. Toxic. Danger of explosion. Harmful if swallowed. Causes eye and skin burns. Causes digestive and respiratoryy tract burns. Mild carcinogen.

Potential Health Effects:

  • Signs and Symptoms of Acute Overexposure: Severe eye and skin irritation and possible burns, possible permanent injury. May casue severe gastrointestinal tract irritation with nausea, vomiting and possible burns. May cause liver and kidney damage. Irritation of lungs may lead to chemical pneumonitis and pulmonary edema. May cause severe irritation of the upper respiratory tract with pain, burns and inflammation.
  • Signs and Symptoms of Chronic overexposure: Chronic inhalation and ingestion may cause effects similar to those of acute inhalation and ingestion.
  • Medical Conditions Generally Aggravated by Exposure: None known.

 4. First Aid Measures

  • Inhalation: Remove victim to fresh air. Get prompt medical attention.
  • Ingestion: Do not induce vomiting. Allow victim to rinse mouth with and then drink 2 - 4 cupfuls of water. Get victim to hospital promptly.
  • Skin Contact: Remove contaminated clothing and footwear. Wash skin with soap and water. Wash clothing before reuse. Get medical attention if skin is burned or if irritation persists.
  • Eye Contact: Immediately flush eyes with water for 15 minutes, occasionally lifting the upper and lower eyelids. If irritation develops, get medical attention.
  • Note to Physician: Treat symptomatically and supportively. There is no specific antidote.

 6. Accidental Release Measures

Use proper personal protection apparatus and appropriate breathing apparatus, as indicated in Section 8. Dike spillage, scoop up with a non-sparking tool; or collect with absorbent material and place in plastic or steel containers. Remove all sources of ignition.

 7. Handling and Storage

Wash thoroughly after handling. Remove contaminated clothing and wash before reuse. Use spark-proof tools and explosion proof equipment. Store in cool dry place away form incompatible substances. Keep container closed when not in use. Store at moderate temperatures, do not freeze. Avoid contact with liquid, mists or dried residues. Empty containers retain product residue, (liquid and/or vapor), and can be dangerous. Do not pressurize, cut, weld, braze, solder, drill, grind, or expose empty containers to heat, sparks or open flame. Follow disposal instructions for hazardous chemical waste. Do not ingest of inhale.
